Notes
There is an identified need for one 11v11 3G FTP across Spelthorne. Through discussions with the LFFP Steering Group options for sites include:
Spelthorne Sports FC - existing facilities include two full size grass pitches, and two junior football pitches with supporting ancillary provision. The site also features a cricket square, which is used by Spelthorne Sports Cricket Club. There is potential to convert one of the full-size grass pitches, the standalone pitch located on the western edge of the site into an 11v11 3G (FTP). The site is the home ground for Spelthorne Sports Youth FC (11 teams, 2* England Accredited Club), and Spelthorne Sports FC (1 open aged male team).
The Thomas Kynvett College — The site includes three full-size grass pitches and a full-size rugby pitch. Middlesex FA has received an EOI to develop a potential 11v11 3G FTP on site. The college, located near London Heathrow Airport, is a possible location for a replacement aviation fuel pipeline. Further feasibility studies are needed to determine if the pipeline installation could affect the proposed 3G FTP project. Laleham FC (21 teams, 2* England Accredited Club) would be an expected user group if this site was selected. The club is currently operating two female teams.
Sunbury Leisure Centre/Sunbury Manor School - Dual use site with one full size rugby grass pitch and one full size grass pitch. In additional there is an artificial grass cricket wicket on site. The site is not currently used by affiliated clubs. Further investigation is required to ascertain if this site is a suitable option for 11v11 3G FTP development.
With the construction of the new 11v11 3G FTP at Ashford Town FC underway (work commenced in October 2024), it is recommended to monitor site usage to assess whether additional demand from other clubs, such as Laleham FC, is being met, especially given its proximity to The Thomas Kynvett College. If the 3G FTP at Ashford Town FC does indeed meet some of the demand from other clubs, it would be advisable to consider further 3G FTP development in the southern half of the local authority. Sunbury Leisure Centre and Spelthorne Sports FC are both located within the southern area of Spelthorne.
Subject to exploration of potentially feasible site options, there may be a need for the development of new or refurbished ancillary provision to support the development of a 3G FTP.
