Notes
Rationale: A number of sites in the East of Southend-on-Sea were identified by the steering group as being potentially suitable for the development of 11v11 3G FTPs. It is anticipated that any pitches developed in the area would support the larger clubs based in the area including Leigh Ramblers Youth*** (47 teams), Trinity Youth** (35 teams), Southend Manor Youth* (15 teams), White Ensign Youth* (13 teams), and additional clubs based in the East area. There is demand for at least two 11v11 3G FTPs in the East area.
Potential sites to explore include:
The Len Forge Centre
There are currently four adult 11v11 grass pitches and one 11v11 3G FTP on site which are well used by a number of community clubs, including a significant walking football provision by Eastwood Falcons. There is potential for an additional 11v11 3G FTPs to be developed on the site, creating a 3G hub. It is anticipated that should a new pitch be developed here, the development will also support demand in Rochford. The ancillary facilities on site are poor quality and require investment to ensure they are suitable for community demand.
The Youth Ground
Set within the Garon Park estate and adjacent to Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre, The Youth Ground has been identified as a potential site for the development of two 11v11 3G FTPS, creating a new hub site in Southend-on-Sea. The site currently has three adult 11v11 grass pitches, two junior 11v11 grass pitches, 2 mini 7v7 grass pitches, two mini 5v5 grass pitches and is primarily used by Trinity Youth** (35 teams). The existing ancillary facilities on site are poor quality and require investment to replace the existing building and develop an ancillary offer which is suitable for the size of Trinity Youth** and is able to meet demand by the potential development of 3G FTPs on site.
Garon Park
There is currently one 11v11 3G FTP available at the site, and planning permission has been submitted for the development of an additional 11v11 3G FTP on site. The site is primarily used by Old Southendian Youth** (17 teams) and would likely be key users for any additional pitch developed on site. The pitch would likely also support Trinity Youth** (35 teams) who play at The Youth Ground, adjacent to Garon Park.
