Notes
The analysis calculated a need for five additional 3G FTPs in this sub area.
As agreed through the Steering Group, there are three areas which should be prioritised, with one 11v11 3G FTP each. No site was identified across all three areas, with further feasibility required.
The A303 corridor- there is a need for a pitch supporting the areas of Crewkerne, Ilminster and Martock, connected through the A303 road network. A pitch in this area would support the following clubs:
- Crewkerne Rangers (12 teams, England 1* accredited)
- Ilminster Town/Ilminster Town Youth (17 teams, England 1* accredited)
- Martock Rovers (15 teams, England 1* accredited)
A pitch would encourage clubs to expand all sections, including their female teams (there is a total of six female teams between the three clubs).
If the preferred site for the project is local to Martock, this could provide part solution to Martock RFCs midweek capacity deficit. The pitch should be built to achieve WR22 and allow rugby secure peak time access.
If the preferred site for the project is local to Martock, this could provide part solution to Crew RFCs midweek capacity deficit. The pitch should be built to achieve WR22 and allow rugby secure peak time access.
Castle Cary/Wincanton area. There is currently no 3G FTP provision in this area. An 11v11 3G FTP would support Wincanton Town/Youth FC (20 teams, England 1* accredited), and Castle Cary FC (9 teams, England 1* accredited). A 3G FTP would support the clubs to grow, particularly the female and youth sections. Currently, there is a total of four female teams between both clubs.
Should the preferred site for the project be local to Castle Cary, this could provide part solution to Castle Cary RFCs midweek capacity deficit. It is recommended that any future pitch should be WR22 and allow the listed rugby club peak time access.
Yeovil Town Centre. There are currently two 3G FTPs in Yeovil, both of which are at capacity. A third community 3G FTP would support the following clubs; Pen Mill Youth (22 teams, England 2* accredited), Westland Sports (19 teams, England 1* accredited), and East Coker Cockerels Youth (11 teams, England 1* accredited). Consultation indicates that team growth is currently restricted due to the limited 3G FTP provision within the town.
There is a midweek/sports lit pitch deficit at Yeovil RFC which the RFU agree the proposed 3G in this area could support the rugby club if this pitch is built to achieve WR22 and secure some peak time access for rugby.
For the remaining shortfall (2 x3G FTPs), further analysis is required to identify potential locations.
