Notes
Ormiston Rivers Academy has an existing artificial grass pitch which was built in 1999 and is of a poor quality. The Maldon PPS (2025) identifies that the pitch is unused for hockey and that there could be an opportunity for it to be converted into a 3G surface to support localised football use. The School has identified this as an aspiration to Essex FA.
Subject to agreement with England Hockey for the pitch's potential conversion, a pitch at this site would directly address the 3G FTP shortfall of one 11v11 pitch identified in the PPS within the South East of the Authority. The programme of use at this location must prioritise accommodating clubs from Burnham and the surrounding areas. This will help ensure that football clubs from Burnham currently travelling to Plume Academy in central Maldon can instead access facilities closer to home. In turn, this will relieve pressure on the pitch at Plume Academy, creating greater availability for local football use in that area.
This will likely create additional capacity on the existing hockey suitable AGP at Maldon Hockey Club by the theoretical relocation of football demand to the nearby Plume Academy 3G pitch. This will enable growth opportunities for hockey.
At this time, potential club users of the pitch are unknown, but it is expected that England Football Accredited 2* and 3* clubs will be given priority access. Clubs with this level of England Football Accreditation will likely have a robust women and girls offer which will enable priority access within peak time periods to support growth across this demographic.
