Notes
Wilson Playing Field typically has one 5v5, 7v7, 9v9, youth 11v11 and an adult pitch. The wider site also has a running track athletics facility, clubhouse building, car parking and woodland trails.
It has been historically used as a strategic site for adult football and for local youth teams, such as Clayton Park FC and others within the local area.
The site is being redeveloped which will see the development of a new built leisure offer, known as Wilson Sports Village.
The new leisure development will include a four-lane 25 metre swimming pool, a fitness suite, sauna and steam room, group exercise studio, cafe, large changing village and dedicated changing facilities that will service teams making use of the various outdoor sports facilities.
The LFFP steering group has identified an opportunity to develop an 11v11 3G FTP on the site The site currently has no football use (temporarily relocated to other sites due to the ongoing building work) but is also typically the home venue of rugby league club Accrington Wildcats ARLFC which has seven dedicated youth teams (including dedicated girls teams). There is potential for the 3G FTP to be developed as RFL Community compliant to offer multi-sport benefit by providing both training and match play opportunities for rugby league.
If delivered, a new 11v11 3G FTP would be able to accommodate demand from both within its immediate area but also from Great Harwood just over a mile away.
