Notes
There is an identified shortfall of one 11v11 3G FTP in Borehamwood & Elstree area as identified in the Hertsmere PPS.
Two sites have been identified as having the potential to provide one 11v11 pitch. The first is Hertswood Academy which already has an existing 3G FTP and the project would be to develop a second pitch to make it a strategic football hub.
The second site is Tempsford Green which is an existing playing field site. The Council reports it is in early stage conversation with Hertfordshire County Council about the future of the site which may enable opportunities for sport and recreation.
Its also noted that Maccabi London Lions FC (England 2* accredited) sits just across the border in Barnet and could be considered as a back up option for 3G FTP delivery.
The key site user of any new project is likely to be Borehamwood Youth FC which is an England 2* Accredited 2* Club (26 teams).
Either project will need a review of the existing ancillary provision which supports each site. Initial feedback from the LFFP steering group suggests a new pavilion will be needed to support each project.
Hertswood Academy is recognized as a multi-sport facility and any developments whether for a 3G FTP or ancillary improvements, must not compromise the availability or quality of facilities for non-football sports, unless suitable mitigation measures are agreed upon in advance.
From a multi-sport opportunity perspective, the Hertsmere PPS (2019) identifies a midweek training capacity shortfall at Tabard RFC. Any 3G FTP project in this catchment area could provide a theoretical solution to addressing these challenges. On this basis, the Club (via the RFU) will be consulted on any forthcoming plans to develop provision in this area.
