Notes
There is an identified need for one 11v11 3G FTP in the Guildford town area. Through discussions with the LFFP Steering Group options for sites include:
-Guildford Spectrum: is a large leisure centre which is of high strategic importance locally. It features one full size grass pitch in the centre of an athletics Track (which meets FA Ground Grading requirements for Step 5 football). It currently operates as the home venue for Guildford City FC's first team (2 teams, England 1* Accredited Club). It was highlighted by the LFFP steering group that there is potential for the leisure centre to to be redeveloped within the next 5-10 years, and there is potential for an 11v11 3G FTP to be added within the footprint of the site as part of redevelopment plans. Furthermore, as an alternative there is a also potential for development of an 11v11 3G FTP on Stoke Park which is located in close proximity to Guildford Spectrum.
-Christ's College Guildford: features two 11v11 grass pitches, with no current affiliated users. In addition, there is an artificial grass wicket on site. Surrey FA highlighted that it has received an EOI for development of an 11v11 3G FTP from the College.
As clubs are spread across multiple facilities for training, it remains unclear at this time which clubs would benefit most from the proposed 11v11 3G FTP. A comprehensive usage programme would need to be developed during the application stage to clarify anticipated demand and primary users.
Given the timescales associated with the potential redevelopment of Guildford Spectrum, demand within Guildford town should be closely monitored. If demand levels continue to rise, there may be a justified case for developing 3G FTPs at both sites, subject to further analysis.
Subject to exploration of potentially feasible site options, there may be a need for the development of new or refurbished ancillary provision to support the development of a 3G FTP.
Any potential 3G FTP development would be subject to full feasibility planning at application stage.
