Notes
Shrub End Sports Ground is a strategic site for football in Colchester. The site already accommodates one existing 11v11 3G FTP and several 11v11 grass football pitches. The existing 3G FTP is managed by the Colchester United Foundation and accommodates health and wellbeing, education, inclusion and female specific programmes. Of particular note is the range of women's and girls programmes which take place at the site, including Wildcats, girls development centre, emerging talent centre and dedicated women's teams.
The development of a second 3G FTP will enable this activity to be increased and also provide wider opportunities for midweek training requirements from local grassroots clubs. It is expected this will also be managed by the Foundation.
The site is likely to need a reconfiguration/an extension to its ancillary offer if a second 3G FTP is provided on the site and this has therefore been accounted for as part of the potential project.
The site has been identified by the LFFP steering group as one of the optimal sites in Colchester to increase the supply of 11v11 3G FTP provision due to its existing infrastructure and centralised location for large grassroots clubs.
The site is currently used by 11 teams for match play purposes (based on 24/25 affiliation data) and was identified as accommodating over 20 teams in the Colchester PPS.
